The 2025 VW ID. Buzz Pro shows how strongly people yearn for the past.

The world seems caught in a nostalgic phase, particularly in the U.S. It’s common to find endless online scrolling through clickbait channels with titles like, “Only [decade] babies remember.” These pages, filled with old commercials and TV show openings, draw in many online commenters who love to reminisce about the past and lament how things were supposedly better before. This fondness for nostalgia is a widespread issue in today’s culture, evident even in pop music and the frequent reboots of popular movies like Spider-Man.

However, nostalgia can hide problems, distracting people from real flaws and making them believe old media is better than it actually was. For example, while I found the rebooted Judge Dredd movie entertaining, the remake of Ghostbusters felt like a cheap attempt to capitalize on nostalgia. This isn’t limited to movies; car brands also utilize nostalgia, with varying success. Some, like the Ford Bronco, are enjoyable and well-executed, while others are criticized for being a lazy way to sell a subpar vehicle.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is clearly designed with nostalgia in mind. I, however, wanted to know if it was a genuine attempt to recapture the spirit of the original Type 2 Transporter or just a superficial cash grab. A week spent with the 2025 single-motor, two-tone version revealed the answer is more complex than it initially seems. The ID. Buzz is a likeable electric car with some merits. But it has notable quality of life issues that might make enthusiasts reconsider their nostalgic view and perhaps save their money.

I'm Rohan Mehta, the voice behind KhelRe—a trusted and steadily growing blog dedicated to electric vehicles (EVs) in India. With over five years of experience as a tech and automotive blogger, I turned my frustrations with owning an EV into a mission: to help others make more intelligent choices in this fast-evolving world of electric mobility. I've been an early adopter of EV technology—I repurchased my first electric scooter in 2019. That experience opened my eyes to both the promises and the pitfalls of this new mode of transport. From slow charging times and range anxiety to misleading specs and hidden costs, I've faced it all. But instead of walking away, I decided to write about it. That's how KhelRe was born—a no-nonsense, hands-on blog where I share practical, real-world reviews of EV cars, bikes, and scooters. I break down features, range, performance, and pricing from a user-first perspective. I take pride in simplifying complex tech into clear, valuable insights—offering tips, ownership stories, and advice you won't find in flashy press releases or sales brochures. Whether you're a first-time EV buyer or just a curious auto enthusiast, my goal is to help you navigate the EV landscape with confidence. My motto: "EV knowledge should come from experience, not just brochures." When I'm not test-driving the latest e-scooter or comparing charging networks, you'll probably find me tinkering with my garage EV setup, chatting with fellow enthusiasts online, or sipping chai while writing my next blog post from a cosy local café.
