Manufacturers often use words like adaptable, convenient, versatile, and safe to describe their gadgets. While these words are sometimes overused, they are important for today’s changing transportation options. As more cities realize that cars aren’t the only way to get around, new ideas for electric micro-mobility are emerging.
We’ve seen electric bicycles and scooters in all sorts of shapes and sizes – designs that were unimaginable just a decade ago. Take, for example, the Beam e-scooter concept designed by Bhavya Upadhyay and Devam Jangra. The Beam has two functions: in short trips, it can be ridden like a regular electric kick scooter with the rider standing on the floorboard. For longer rides, a seat can be deployed from the floorboard, providing extra comfort and stability, similar to riding an electric bike.
The Beam is designed with a sleek, clean look inspired by brands like Apple, Dyson, and Ninebot. The designers say the Beam can transform from an electric kick-scooter to an e-bike in seconds without any tools. Safety and user enjoyment were also key considerations in the design. The Beam has a wider deck and slightly wider handlebars than most standard scooters, and the added seat lowers the rider’s center of gravity, making it more stable.
Beyond the ability to switch between scooter and bike, the Beam is foldable, making it easy to carry in a small car or store under a desk. It also has built-in lights all around and a camera that can record rides and act as a safety feature in case of an accident. There’s even a built-in tool kit and first aid kit.
Technologically, the details of what will become available in a real product are still uncertain. However, the renderings show sleek digital displays on the handlebars – a large one in the center for navigation and two smaller ones on the sides for adjusting modes and viewing ride data. The designers also mention a removable battery pack for easy charging.
While the Beam scooter concept is impressive, it’s still just an idea. However, designs like this could influence future electric scooter development, especially as more people consider using bikes and scooters for shorter trips instead of cars.

I’m Rohan Mehta, the voice behind KhelRe—a trusted and steadily growing blog dedicated to electric vehicles (EVs) in India. With over five years of experience as a tech and automotive blogger, I turned my frustrations with owning an EV into a mission: to help others make more intelligent choices in this fast-evolving world of electric mobility.
I’ve been an early adopter of EV technology—I repurchased my first electric scooter in 2019. That experience opened my eyes to both the promises and the pitfalls of this new mode of transport. From slow charging times and range anxiety to misleading specs and hidden costs, I’ve faced it all. But instead of walking away, I decided to write about it.
That’s how KhelRe was born—a no-nonsense, hands-on blog where I share practical, real-world reviews of EV cars, bikes, and scooters. I break down features, range, performance, and pricing from a user-first perspective. I take pride in simplifying complex tech into clear, valuable insights—offering tips, ownership stories, and advice you won’t find in flashy press releases or sales brochures.
Whether you’re a first-time EV buyer or just a curious auto enthusiast, my goal is to help you navigate the EV landscape with confidence. My motto: “EV knowledge should come from experience, not just brochures.”
When I’m not test-driving the latest e-scooter or comparing charging networks, you’ll probably find me tinkering with my garage EV setup, chatting with fellow enthusiasts online, or sipping chai while writing my next blog post from a cosy local café.
